Barbados is officially a republic and a new chapter begins. Happy Independence Day Barbados!
In 1966, 300 years after the first English settlers arrived, Barbados became an independent sovereign state. This was a massive moment for the country and its people. Every year since, on the 30th November, Barbados celebrates Independence Day. 2021 marks the day that Barbados became a republic.
In celebration, EliteDrinks.com has created a list of our favourite Bajan rum to enjoy today, as well as a Rum Punch recipe to try out tonight.
1. Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum
Mount Gay Black Barrel is a small batch, handcrafted rum recently created by master distiller Allen Smith. It is a blend of both matured double pot distillates and aged column distillates which are finished in Bourbon oak barrels. The unique blend delivers a bold and balanced flavour.
Black Barrel has woody and butter notes balanced with dried fruit and spices. This rum tastes bold and aromatic with notes of gingerbread, lychee and toffee. The body of this rum is warm, medium with a long finish.

2. Duppy Share Caribbean Rum
The Duppy Share Caribbean Rum is a masterful blend of the finest 3 years old Jamaican Rum and 5 years old Barbadian Rum to create the ultimate taste of the Caribbean. Ages in ex-bourbon barrels, this rum delivers the perfect combination of tropical fruit taste and toasted oak sensations. Enjoy this exquisite rum in a rum punch cocktail for the perfect summer taste.

3. Plantation 3 Stars White Rum
Plantation 3 Stars is a tribute to the historic rums produced in the Caribbean, with a suave blend of the region’s three primary terroirs: Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad. While Barbados delivers richness and a balanced palate, Trinidad adds finesse and Jamaica provides an emphatic structure. This is the perfect rum for Daiquiris!
3 Stars has delicate scents of brown sugar, honey, coffee bean; later whiffs following further aeration encounter baking spices: vanilla, and cloves.
Palate: Entry is biscuity, yet is bittersweet and light-bodied. Midpalate features round, supple flavours of dark chocolate, root beer, egg cream. Finishes fast, refined. Serious white rum at its grassy, herbal best.
