1. French Connection Cocktail
This slow-sipper contains a great combination of Cognac and amaretto, making it probably the easiest drink on the planet. Serve over ice for a classy cocktail. The amaretto gives it an almond flavour that complements the Cognac's richness. In our office, this is a favourite! Here's how to put it together.
Ingredients1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) Cognac
1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) amaretto liqueur
Ice, to serve
Pour the Cognac and amaretto over the ice. Stir gently to combine.
2. Old Fashioned
We are great fan of the classic Old Fashioned, which consists of just whiskey (ideally rye), sugar, bitters, and a citrus peel. This drink should be straightforward, powerful, and whiskey-forward. Good for those who want to get straight to the point.
Ingredients1 sugar cube, or 1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
3 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
Orange peel, for garnish
Maraschino Cherries, for garnish
Place sugar into a glass and dash in the bitters. Muddle or stir to mix
Add the whiskey, fill the glass with ice and stir very well
Twist the orange peel and squeeze into the glass before dropping into the glass. Add Maraschino Cherries as a garnish!
3. Whiskey Sour
The father of all sours is the whiskey sour. A well-made whiskey sour is a revelation, despite its reputation for being excessively sweet. There aren't many cocktails that are as satisfying as this one. Fresh citrus juice and perfect balance are the key to a perfect whiskey sour.
Ingredients2 ounces whiskey
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 to 3/4 ounce simple syrup to taste
Maraschino cherry (or lemon peel) to garnish
In a cocktail shaker, fill it with ice, pour the whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
Shake well
Strain into a glass with fresh ice
Garnish with cherries or and a lemon peel
Ok, Ok! You want to try something other than the classics! What about a...
